'99 recently had the tb changed and now I have a whine noise when reved that was not there before. Going back to the mechanic tomorrow but wondering if anyone has experience this after having the tb changed. Could the tb be on too tight?? Is that even possible?? Needs breaking in??? Opinions. Thanks all.

Whining is not normal at all.

Probly didn't install one or ALL idlers , one's a mistake - maybe , and so the new stronger belt along with proper 'increased' tension brought out "noise" & super-accelerated idler bearing failure ??? :wtf2:

Whining sound after a timing belt change is indicative of it being too tight. Nissan wants you to use tools to measure the tension but a good rule of thumb is you should be able to twist it roughly 90 degrees in the centre between the cams.

Yup belt was on too tight, adjusted and now sounds and runs great. Really enjoying this old pathfinder had zero need for it but wanted something to mess around with on my days off and it fits the bill nicely.
