Hi, I' ve got a 99 sentra 1.6 with 165k car was running great until today. I started the car drove 10 mins shut it off and now it won't start. Not even a click at the starter. I do here a noise from the fast idle speed solenoid, pass side of engine hooked on intake plenum. Book says there should be a click there but what I hear is more of a shake, like the solenoid is not working. Could this be keeping the engine from starting?? Does it act like a switch when it opens to let pwr go to starter?

need some help please!!

thanks

Battery voltage is 12.6v

Battery voltage doesnt mean a thing without testing it on a load. IT could read 13 volts all day long, but when a load is applied, it could fall faster than Harry Carey at open bar night.

Try to get someone to turn the key to start it while you tap it with a hammer, this usually dislodges a stuck gear. I usually do the ole screwdriver trick where you jump the main constant, (big), wire to the signal wire directly on the starter. Yes it will spark and yes you may soil yourself the first time, but its a good way to see if the problem is the starter or the circuit leading from the ignition switch to the starter.

BTW, if that starter is OEM on a 165K car, I'd say call Nissan, tell them way to go on having a starter last so long, then really look at the starter for your issue.
