I'm replacing my wife's 90' Mits Galant with a 99 Sentra with 23k on the odo and garaged all its life. Giving the guy 6 grand for it, seemed like a good deal given what I saw in the paper and on Autotrader for the miles. It is a GXE Limited.

THe owner did everything the dealership told him to do. My question, should I do a 30k service and change all fluids etc before I drive it up to the Bay Area (from LA)?

Also, what is the low down on the 99', I know it is slow as a snail, 115hp, correct? For my wife that is fine since her Galant is 110 and weights alot more.

Thanks in advance, this is now 4 nissans in the family.....

Nah if he has kept up on the services you'll be ok making the drive. just be sure to get it done when you get close to 30K make sure the oils been done within the last 3000 and it should be fine. If your worried you might have something that needs addressing hit up a dealer and have a multipoint inspection done. Most dealers do those for free with an oil change if you request it.

thanks, I'm having it taken to my mechanic in LA for the once over and I'll proably have him do all the fluids while he's got it. The $$ it cost to do car repairs in the Bay Area are WAY higher than they are to do in LA so I'll do it while it is there.

I assume this is essentially a bullet proof car, the only thing I really want to change is the rims and tires. This thing is on bicycle tires and 14" rims. I changed my wifes Galant from 185/70 14 to 225/50 15 and the car was like night and day.

Are there 15" take-offs from newer Sentras? Are all the Sentra's on 4 lug rims???

Yeah they are all 4 lug wheels.See if you can get a deal on some Spec V wheels off E-bay or a sentra board. They look great and "stock" style.

The SR20 is a great motor as you have herd i'm sure.Making more power if you need it should be easy.

Kewl, the SpecV wheels it is, I hate buying stuff like that off e-bay, but I'll keep my eyes open.

So, how does one get more power out of that motor?????

You drop an SR20DE in it! Oh... wait... umm... anyway, there are a few parts out there for the base engine, you just have to look for them. for free you could remove the intake resonator (I'm assuming that it's like the SR, maybe it's not, I'd have to look), but then it might be a bit loud... :( Basically, in order to get a few more ponies squeaked out you're going to end up making it louder and/or rougher (unless you want to dig in and drop some pullies in it or something), and I'm not sure the wife would like it. Try that dead forum, the Sentra section.

On rims, you could always get a set of 2000+ SE rims, there are 15's, but also the Performance Package 16" 6 spokes look great, IMO, just don't get the OEM Firestone Firehawk tires (if you could find some, which is decently likely, check b15sentra.net). Good luck!

16's-

Thanks, I think the wife is going to drive this with stock horse power, but she is already *****ing about the bicycle tires so I need to find some replacement rims, but I've had it with aftermarket ones.

I'll check out those sites, thanks a bunch, I'm sure once I get the car I'll be back here asking more questions.

b15's have 4x114. b14's have 4x100. i would go for a nice set of se-l rims. they got the titanium/bronze finish. good luck finding them though. very rare rims. or ya can get any b14 se-r or b14 se wheels. they're nice too and easier to get.

Thanks, we have the car now. Pretty nice but gutless wonder for sure. It is more gutless than I though, although the motor does like to rev. Good gas mileage though.

Anybody now what the biggest 14" tires I can put on the Anniversary Edition rims? These rims actually look pretty cool but 175/65 14's are very small. Can I fit 205/50???? Do they even make that size?

I don't think the post 1999 wheels will fit. Lug pattern on the newer Sentra is larger than the old.- 4x100 same as Honda/Mazda/Mitsu/Saturn/Toyota. I am running 185R605-15's on my 1998 GXE, and they made it MUCH better. The take-offs wnet on the 1991 Protege..

No, all nissan 4 bolts are 4 by 114.3. You can get any sentra wheel and it will fit. Go for the spec v wheels or the newer 6 spoke wheels.

Please go to http://www.discounttiredirect....ze=OE

The early four lugs (pre-1990?) were 113.5, but on the post 1990 up to 1999 Sentras, they were 100x4. Nissan switched back to 113.5 in 2000 as well as went from 14" diam to 15" diam as standard equipment. Offset was increased from 32 to 35 as well.

2000 Sentra wheels can be found athttp://www.discounttiredirect....ze=OEand with the exception of erroneously showing factory steel wheels as 100x4, you will immediately notice the difference.
