When i did my full suspension upgrade. i changed the front brake pads but i did not bleed the system just compressed the calipers and thats it. Since then my wife rear ended somebody she said she applied the brakes but kept goin. I too did the same and i just missed rear ending another vehicle i hit the brakes and even when i applied the brakes i was not slowing down as much is it should have. I was doin like 35-45mph. Last night my wife had a worst situation with my 2 year old in the truck. It was raining and she went to stop before a red light and she said that she applied brakes and kept goin all the way into the intersection so she let go of brakes and kept goin said she almost lost control after that. And brakes were not helping.

Now i know may be she might have been goin fast cause her story i cant believe all the way but as i drive the truck today. Any thing over 35 mph she does not react on the brakes are applied if she is just rolling at 5-10mph it stops just fine but the pedal is light and travels all the way down with a little force is not to light but not that soft.

What im i looking at system bleed, new master cylinder, or brake booster? If anyone can chime in really appreciate it my son is in this vehicle a lot not. Its scares me. Thanks in advance.

Have not done the brakes yet on mine but i would say the easiest and cheapest is to try bleeding the system first, I had bought a Vacuum tester / Brake bleeder tool from Harbor Freight for cheap. Worked great on bleeding the brakes by myself. When you compressed the calipers did you make sure to loosen the bleeder screw first then compress and tighten, Also i think they recommend unscrewing the fluid cap when compressing. Is any ABS light on?
Sounds like air in the line to me.

No i did not do any of those steps. And i do not have the abs light on. I guess i need to bleed the system and adjust rear drum brakes. Like u said is cheaper. So not doing some of the steps u mention can cause air in the lines?

Seriously.. take it to a brake shop right away.

Compressing the calipers won't add air to the system so something else has gone wrong since you made no mention there was a issue before you changed pads.

This is not something to guess about if it is being driven

I've done my share of bleeding brakes but what you are describing sounds more like the brake booster. Read this: http://www.ehow.com/list_7166506_sympto ... oster.html

You need to remove the brake fluid filler cap or loosen the bleeder screw, because when you compress the caliper the extra fluid needs to escape through somewhere, you may have forced it to push through a seal and introduced air into the line when compressing the caliper.

I agree with Slumpert that you should take it to a brake shop if you are uncertain, not something to play around with.
