Hi,

New to the forum. Bought my 99 QX4 brand new and had it dealer maintained upto 140K. Now, I have 170k on it and the transmission just started shifting real hard while driving around town. Prior to this, no issue at all with the truck...luv it. I am not very mechanically inclined and I don't know if I need to replace the transmission or should I replace the vehicle and get something else instead.

thanks.

Yeah, hard shifts are just a quirk of the R50's. Has to do with the transmissions, doesn't mean anything. Mine's always shifted hard since I got it with 70K on the odom and I'm not at 144K and it's still the same.

Flush it and it'll get better, but your transmission is just fine.

I have 3.3 pathfinder. i bought this on 90k miles and now it is 140k.I was shifting hard 1st gear to 2nd. It never got worse, but because of another issue on transmisison i made it serviced. All internat elements has been replaced. Now it shifts smoother on any gear. But please note that first gear change is still there and harder than rest. So i assume this is normal behaviour and related matching revs of wheels, long shaft and transmission.

Hi,

Had the flush done. The truck still shifts hard and sometimes the '4WD' light comes on and finally the 'Check Engine' light comes on and stays on. Mechanic ran the Scanner through and it indicates a problem with the Throttle Position Sensor. Mechanic is looking into that. I am hoping that is all it is. Seems like TPS for my truck are around $85-95 for the part. Don't know what the installation will cost. Any ideas if this will fix my problem and how much should the installation cost?

Thanks for the support.

The trans flush didn't do anything for mine either. It is still a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Depending on the rpm's and throttle position, it can be pretty rough some times. The part that cracks me up is that the smoothest shift is when I am at full throttle.

Interestingly, when the engine is cold, the shifts are REAL smooth.

PROBLEM FIXED. It was the Throttle Position Sensor that was causing the problem in the first place. Now, shifts REAL smooth.

Could that be the problem with the hard 1st to 2nd shifts?
