99 QX4 parking/tail light problem

I've run into a strange problem. When my wife came home a few days ago, she couldn't get the parking lights/tail lights/license plate lights to turn off. Sure enough, when I went outside, the truck was off, the switch was off, but the lights were still on. I pulled the tail lamp relay and the lights went out. I swapped relays and started the truck and turned the lights on, then shut everything off. Same lights stayed on.

Did some checking and confirmed what I suspected...most likely the headlight switch. Got a new switch, put it in, and unfortunately, still have the same problem. Now I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Check all of the door switches for damage. I don't think this could be causing it, but it is possible. Also check or replace the fuse labeled "TAIL" in the engine bay fuse box.

I checked the door and tailgate switches, and the fuse. All were ok.

I don't know what else to suggest. You can find a wiring diagram on page EL-46 and forward of the factory service manual. I wouldn't know what to check first - maybe the system description on EL-45 will yield some clues.
