My 99 qx4 has the high beam indicator light on even if my high beams are off. So as soon as i turn the switch on my high beam indicator comes on. My lights all work fine and function correctly. But today on my driver side both corner light and headlight didn't come on. I wonder if the light switch on the steering column is bad? I have an 89 nissan d21 that had a similar issue and after hacking some bulb connectors it turned out to be a the switch. Has anyone had this happen? Thanks for the help.

So judging by the diagram on page EL-29, the high beam indicator can only receive power from either the switch, or from the theft control unit and that the driver side high beam headlamp circuit is connected to the high beam indicator.

Do you have the factory anti-theft system? If so do they turn on with the alarm?

The high beams do indeed turn on when the alarm is activated.

Does the high beam indicator light up no matter what setting the lighting switch is on? Check off, auto (if applicable on your model), parking light and headlights.

I do have factory alarm system. It works locks/ unlocks and the parking lights flash when locked by controller. but it doesnt make any beeping or honk sound when locked. The panic button does make the alarm go off. One more thing when i first got her the alarm started turning on by itself, so i unpluged the hood sensor and it stopped turning on. I read that maybe my controller had a bad battery so i changed it or that one of the door sensor or hood sensor was bad. But after changing controller battery i plugged the hood sensor back and it hasnt done it any more.

No auto lights.
And yes no matter what setting.
is not on when switch is off setting.
As soon as i turn the switch to parking lights or all the way to headlights then the high beam indicator come on.

The beeping when locked can be enabled by holding "lock" and "unlock" for several seconds (read the back of your remote).

Are the high beams actually on when the indicator is on, or are the lights low-beams as they should be? What happens if you turn your brights on, and hold the stalk in toward you (flash your brights)?

Remove the LH headlamp relay and check and see if the high beam indicator is still on. The LH headlamp relay circuit goes to the LH high beams and the high beam indicator.

Or you can remove the 15A fuse for that circuit.

If it turns off, then it is very likely that the switch needs to be replaced since it was getting power from terminal #9 when it shouldn't be.

If it still stays on, check and see if it's still getting power from terminal #9, if so, switch is damaged. (Internal short?)

If not, then it's the theft system wiring. According to the FSM, there is nothing else tied to the high beam indicator lamp wiring.

After further review it turns out that the prior owner installed the wrong headlight lamp it had a 9007 lamps and my qx4 uses 9004 lamps. Problem solved i guess indicator came on cause it had wrong lamp on.

I know weird i kept looking did everything u guys suggested and then i double checked the lamps and notice that when i unplug the driver side lamp the indicator would shut off. After messing around with the lamps i broke the good lamp from the pass. side so i purchased a two lamps. Also i notice that my qx4 uses older style lamps since my 89 nissan pick up uses same lamps when i asked for 99 qx4 lamps they gave me different ones. I guess it changes in middle of year or prodct. Date.
So i used my 89 lamps and waaa laaa problem solved. Like i said the system most know when it has wrong lamp.
