hi,

i am having a problem with the electronic climate control unit that happened overnight. everything works (all the buttons) except for the blower motor speed. it is stuck of slow, and the visual display of the speed (the 4 fan blades) are all flashing, and i can't change the speed at all. also, if it matters, i can't even shut it off, like if i hit the "off" button, it turns itself back on within a second.

thanks inadvance

This is a somewhat common problem in Pathfinders and QX4 96-04. Blower motor resistor. Blower motor - take out the glove box, look on the blower box. 1 screw and a harness to disconnect and its out. The blower motor resistor is just below the blower motor. It has a four pin white connector and two #2 phillips screws holding it in. Unplug it, remove the two screws, remove the old one and pop in a new one. Takes 10 minutes, 20 minutes tops to do. This is a dealership part. info here http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthr...10456

i suspected the blower motor resistor, but mine works on low only, not on max which is what the other thread indicates. i searched and found other people saying the resistor is $130 US, so i don't want to buy one if i don't need it.

is there anyway to bypass the resistor to test if it's bad?

i think if you unplug it you can test it. cause it should just blow on the hi setting.

exactly what i thought, just blow on the high setting, but it's doing the opposite; blowing on the low setting.

All I've seen indicated a high-speed only problem, but this is the first I've seen of an auto climate control. Could it behave differently than the manual, and rather than blow on high speed it sticks on low?

I'm going to stick with my initial guess of blower motor resistor. Symptoms of a bad resistor are fan settings being skewed and only working on one setting, regardless of whether it is high or low.

i'm sorry, i don't get it? i thought when you unplug the blower motor resistor, the fan would stop altogether? is it supposed to work when you unplug it? and at what speed?

the resistor is for fan settings 1-3. setting 4 is full power which doesnt need a resistor.

ok, so now does everyone else's climate control display flash when the resistor goes, and not be able to turn it off?

to me, it sounds like the climate control unit is toast since it doesn't turn off, and it's flashing, and i would assume the resistor is fine since it works on low.

Hate to say it, but I think you may be right. . if you were closer, I'd be willing to try my climate control on your ride to test this. .

I guess. . there's always ebay. . :o

The 2nd one I posted is older, but cheaper.

lol it wouldnt be worth the time to swap units. its pretty difficult to take out the display. i say just replace the resistor from one out of any nissan with the same blower assembly and test it. when mine went i just ran to the junkyard and picked out up out of a 95 sentra for $5. or at least unplug it and see.. and not waste money on the control unit until you know for sure it is it.

My AC fan was stuck on high in my 01 QX4 but now it stopped blowing all together. I have a resistor on order but now I'm worried that the blower may have gone out as well. I did let this problem of it staying on high go on for about 2 months and it did blow 1 of the blower fuses. Any suggestions? Could the resistor still be the only problem although its not blowing at all now?

Thanks
