hi, new to this awesome forum. just bought a 99 Q thats looks, smells(except for the engine degreaser.), and runs like its brand new.

it has 90K miles, and NO records of services performed!

Any ideas what to do to make it continue running this good?

also, its pearl white and have some scratches on the bumper.

whats the best way to touch up this color?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

1.) Congratulations and welcome to our club.

2.) Au contraire! You need to submit the VIN to a dealer or call Infniti Customer Service and register yourself as the owner of the car. Always done by a prudent buyer before even viewing the car so as to know what one is assessing. Also, you should start saving heavily for shock replacement as the electronic ones are not cheap and it's about that time.

3.) Get the FSM and TSB and read them. Read all posts by Q45tech on this board and follow all the links he porvides. This will not be quick, but a worthwhile investment of your time.

4.) You can buy OEM touch-up paint form Joe (you'll discover who he is), but it will lack the elastomer that a professional shop will add to the paint. A TSB addresses this very issue.

While you are replacing all the fluids, do think of adding an external ATF cooler.

And post pictures in Member's Rides Gallery.

Unless you really want to learn about G50 Q45's, he doesn't address the Y33 much (not much in common between them either), but I would suggest you read what he may have to say about the Y33 (I don't think there's much though, he doesn't like the 2nd gen Q, doesn't consider it a "real" Q). No offense Q45tech, I know that you know your stuff on cars in general

Definitely take it or the VIN and have Infiniti give you what history on it that they have and put up some pics when you can!!

thanks for the quick replies, on my way now to the nearest infiniti dealer.

Drove the Q 100 miles today, i cant believe this car has less body roll than my sc430. Im so damn glad i bought this instead of an LS400. Both cars are great, but this Q is definitely rowdy.

I'll post pictures as soon as i figure out how to.

thanks,oragon

Exactly why one should read his posts, even if you drive a Honduh. Why we put ATF coolers on FY33, get transmission flushes, etc..

Reading "all" of his posts is overkill X eleventy billion. You'll surely be well versed in HG50's if you do though.

General car care isn't rocket science, it's common sense. At least it is to me cause guess what, I know my stuff on cars in general pretty damn well.

Sounds like you got a decent Q.

Nice. I passed one like that on the Jersey Turnpike today. Talk to Falk on how to lower your Q a bit. If there's one thing with the Y33s is the big wheel well gap.

Wow, the exterior is pretty much identical to my '00. I love the pearl white on these cars. Always clean. Very classy too.

Personally, on a big-body white sedan, I'd go with chrome.

1.) Define "good," or better yet, when were they all last changed?

2.) And what did they do to keep it that way? White paper towel test result? External ATF cooler?

3.) When were plugs, air filter, fuel filter PCV valves changed? When was IAC and EGR valves cleaned?

In short, what did the Infiniti dealer performed service history which they provided reveal to you? This and the above is what matters, not just "good enough" opinions.

transmission flush by aamco-receipt with the books

9ok miles service by infiniti done 6 mos. 87kmiles.(no idea why they didnt flush the trans.)

all belts are new(except the timing chain-never been touch)

atf cooler fullplugs brand new at 87k air filter- bn cheap looking but bniac egr valves - no idea - ill have to call 'em

only problem now is that coolant stench coming out of the vent, when the car is driven rigorously.

1.) Danger, Will Robinson, danger!

2.) Dealers don't normally flush. They would rather seell you a replacement. http://www.bgfindashop.com

3.) As it should be.

4.) ATF cooler has a sight window? Cool! Anyway, all this should be in the Infiniti dealer performed service history. Get it.

5.) Not good. Bad heater core? Good luck.

Dealer should provice you a print out of complete dealer performed service history. It will reflect any service at any Infiniti dealer. Why they are not volunteering this is beyond me. Did you register yourself as the owner with Infiniti Customer Service?

AAMCO is not a qualified service shop. Same for Cottmans and other franchises. They are in the business of selling transmission services and parts, not preserving transmissions. You'll see when you read some more. Did they do a pan drop and filter, gasket, and one time use bolt replacement? What ATF fluid did they use, and was it a total mechanical fluid exchange? Transmission servce can mean many different things to each provider and consumer.

Nice wheels. I wished my 99 Q45 had the same wheels. Is the "T" considered an anniversary edition as well? I know it has a better suspension than my base Q, but I saw an anniversary edition the other day that looked just like your car.

The touring edition comes with those 5 blade 17" wheels.

So did the Anniversary edition. Any difference between the two editions?
