Thinking about a subwoofer installation. I'm not looking for something to blow out the neighbor's windows and I don't want to put a huge box in the trunk because the cabin and trunk area are divided by the steel c-pillar wall. A trunk woofer would make more sound outside the car than inside.

So I'm wondering about something like this:

I'm thinking of mounting it behind one of the rear seats. What I'm wondering about is how much room there is between the rear seat backs and the trunk wall. The woofer above is 3 inches thick.

Anyone have any experience with the area behind those seats?

You should have your fuel tank behind the seats. Can't recall how much room is left, but there should be some space above it onto the rear parcel shelf.

The fuel tank is in the trunk above the rear wheels.

So looking at it from the driver/left side, you have:
Rear seat back -> Front trunk wall -> little gap -> gas tank?

Or am I picturing this wrong? I thought the tank was right up against the seat or rear cabin firewall, but it's been years since I messed with a Y33

Yupper. That's the way it is.
