I have a '99 Q45 that is drawing about 400ma, divided between three circuits, 75ma from the anti-theft indicator circiut, and about 160ma from each head lamp circuit, the left and right. I can eliminate about 320ma of draw by unplugging the headlamp relays or fuses, (note the head lamp relays are always activated unless they are removed or the fuses for their circuit is removed). I though that maybe I had an internal short in the combination switch so I unplugged it, but that had no effect. I have looked at several diagrams but all the information I have on how the security system actually works is sketchy at best. I know that the head lamps are utilized when the system is enabled and disabled, but I am now a little lost as how to proceed. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

In order to measure an accurate draw of security sytem amp draw, you must be sure to lock doors and use tape or some other weight to keep hood pin switch depressed while hood is open AND WAIT at least 3 minutes for security system to settle down before taking readings at battery terminal & cable.

i dont know about the older q's but th e 02 and newer can take 30 minutes or more for the bcm to go to sleep and can draw even 300 ma before it does.

DOES THE HEADLIGHTS OPERATE THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO, LIKE DOES THE HIGH BEAMS WORK WHEN HIGH BEAMS ARE SELECTED, OR DOES THE LOW BEAM WORK WHEN YOU TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS. DOES THE LIGHTS FLASH WHEN ALARM RING, IF SO PULL BOTH FUSES #54, AND #53. THE DRAW SHOULD GO AWAY. THERE IS NO ELECTRONICS IN THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT, ONLY RELAYS. RELAYS ARE ONLY ON OR OFF AND THEY WILL NOT DRAW 160 MA. IF THE DRAW GOES AWAY AFTER PULLING THOSE FUSES, THEN CK IF THERE IS A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT. IF YOU TEST FOR GROUND AT THE HEADLIGHTS THERE SHOUKD NOT BE ANY. HEADLIGHTS ARE POWERED ALL THE TIME AND GROUND IS GIVEN WHEN THE SWITCH IS TURNED ON. IF THE DRAW DOES NOT GO AWAY AFTER PULLING THE FUSES, THEN MAY BE THE RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT IS SHORTED TO GROUND. RELAYS ARE CONTROLLED BY THE BCM(BODY CONTROL MODULE).
