New member here. I've been scanning the threads here for quite a while and have learned a lot, so thanks to you all for being so informative.

I bought my 99 Q45 a few months ago. I need to replace the steering rack due to leaking and I've been fixing some other things. Replaced a couple pieces of side trim that was missing and it made a world of difference in the looks.

Here's my stupid question.: I want to replace the fog lamp bulbs, one of them is out so I got a couple LED replacements from eBay. I remove the side cover and remove the spring steel clip and from there I can't get anything to move. The OM isn't really clear on how to open this thing up and I don't want to start prying on things and breaking something.

Anyone have any tips on how to get that thing open?

Thanks in advance.

I had to replace my entire fog light (original was crushed) when I bought my 2000, but not the bulb inside. I don't think the fog light "opens" in the sense that you remove the front lens. I think you need to dismount the entire fog light and work from behind the fog light to change the bulb. As I recall, you need to remove the amber side light then remove a few screws to remove the fog light. I am not sure if the wire harness that goes to the back of the fog light has enough slack to allow you to work on the bulb from the front of the car or not. Maybe somebody else that has actually changed a fog light bulb will chime in. But this is the best I can offer since I have not actually changed a bulb.

Once you get through the advertising this is pretty helpful.

Thanks for that, although the owner's manual shows opening and replacement from the front.

To open up the front, remove the side plate (the fog lamp is a rectangle, and then theres a side piece that makes it fit to the contour of the bumper, but it´s just plastic) and behind the side plate are two bolts. From here you can take out the fog lamp completely without going behind anything. There is no way to remove the fog lamp from behind. You might be able to take out the bulb, but it´s honestly easier from the front.

Thanks, anovak. I'll take a look in some better light. The little pictograph in the OM is practically useless.
