Just bought a 99' Q45. When I turn the headlamps on auto, they will go on when it gets dark enough. When I turn off the car, they never turn off. Obviously the sensor on the dash is working, since they turn on at night. Do I have a bad switch somewhere else? Maybe its not seeing the key turn off?

Welcome to the club, Slinger5150.

Never heard of that problem, but when you get the FSM and TSB, the wiring dagram may give you a clue.

Presume the delay adjustment is not working either?

I tried adjusting the delay switch, and it makes no difference.

So there is something in the control circuit that has failed. Very unusual.

Get a FSM and all TSB in Acrobat format from:

Use a high speed line and get it all for a one day $20 subscription.

I turned the delay switch off and they work. So, it must be a bad timer in the timing switch. I don't care if they stay on for x amount of seconds, so it will due. Thanks for the advice.

Good diagnosis.

Hopefully someone lees electronically ignorant can look at the wiring diagram in the FSM and tell if it is the switch module by itself that controls the delay.

If the headlights turn-on sucessfully via the sensor, I assume that would eliminate that component, but I may be wrong.

It is the switch module that controls the delay. I got a set of shop manuals. There's actually two. I am able to read the wiring diagram. I used to own a couple of high end car/audio shops in Chicago. It was the manual that told me you could actually turn off the timer delay. Sometimes things are right in front of you and you don't even see them.

You are way ahead of me, then. Glad you could diagnose it.
