in continuation of.... http://www.vipstylecars.com/fo...12295

Date: 7/19/08 Start time: 0530amStatus: FAILED

SOOOOOOOOOOOO after i got my alternator from autozone, for $198 (military discount i continued my quest to simply change the alternator of my 99' Q45 BLACK/tan (4 bippu pxrlx). How hard can it be right? i've worked on dozens of 240s, concept should be the same.

so 530 am, only real safe time to work on a car in vegas without passing out from the heat. Need i mind you at that time its already over 85 degrees. Took off engine cover, wow looks like a real engine, took out battery, dont want to electricute myself, took off massive air flow box thing, cold air anyone?, took out bracket to coolant thing, even the plate that looks like its shoulder pads, never seen an engine with two of those, sorry H.O.A for the coolant on my driveway loosened belt tensioner, took out mounting bolts, pulled out alternator... last step, taking off the harness plug.... CRACKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! as soon as i put any pressure on that thing, it shattered away like any plastic plug would after being deep fried in the fire of alternators!!! muwahahaha. So now what?

how far do i have to go to replace that harness plug thing? the wires are pretty much fried... and now im stuck... do i try to use some sodering iron thing after i magically find a plug? or do i get a whole new harness, or does it part out somewhere so that i dont have to replace the whole thing? some help please before i go super sayin street fighter bonus stage on my car.

haha, i have joined the ranks of BIPPU status. I had a fireplace in my engine bay for my 2nd mod. step your game up. __________________Its Poges, not pogs. haha.

having diffculty finding the exact plug on IOS. pathetic me. Could u also verify for me if the plug on the alternator has two plugs or three plugs. Theres three wires but in the new alternator theres only two holes. N I can't tell on my old alternator if there was three or two holes cuz its completely mangled

I would recommend calling IOS at 888-216-5328 if you can't find what you need on the site. I would also recommend an OEM alternator if you want to avoid doing this again soon!

Never seen an OEM alternator sold at AutoZone......Not a genuine Nissan brand new, nor rebuilt.

Actually it is an oem alternator. Nissan branded refirb. The term they used was vdp. Vendor distributed part or something. Special order. =)

Probobly still not a true OEM Nissan rebuilt....just a used nissan core rebuilt by who knows who? like trannys.....nissan rebuilds some of them,{and are sold at Nissan dealers} and AAmco or local Earl rebuilds some, both using the same original casing.

The difference is who is the rebuilder and how thorough are they with total parts replacement VS just cleanup/repaint exterior and replace minimal components to get it working

History shows genuine Nissan rebuilt parts outlast generic rebuilders attempt at renewing nissan parts cores

before we continue to stray too far from the original point, no alternator will work without the plug. So help me on that first, then we could bs everything else

Go to a junkyard and cut the needed plug off including 6-12 inches of wires from a parts car and solder & shrinkwrap plug to your existing harness.
