I would like to know, is it a neccessity to have the secondary muffler that comes from under the bumper on a '99 Pathy SE? If not, what would be the best type of muffler and/or exhaust system that I could buy? The flange gasket that connects the center muffler to the rear has rusted apart. I'm not getting any loud noise as if the muffler wasn't there, it's just annoying to have the rear muffler swaying back and forth when I hit a bump or make a hard turn. I also want to change the catalyic converters. How hard is it to do the whole system by yourself(DIY)? Thanks For Any Help

do you knwo how to weld? if not i would say it would be best for you to take to a exhaust shop and pay ~200 bucks for a custom catback system. w/o the cat. the cat itself can cost $$. if you live where there is no emission i would get rid of it if able to. if not be prepared to spend $$ on one.

the cost of this job job right with cat from a exhaust shop shouldn't excced 300 bucks depending on which custom mufller you choose to have.

this will also cure you swaying proplem and msot likaly bring life back to the engine for it can breath with new mufflers and cat.
