Hello all, long-time searcher, first time poster here. I have a 99 Pathfinder 4x4, recently removed the throttle body to give it a good cleaning (I had the stuck throttle/carbon build-up issue). Upon putting it back on, I realized that I made a rookie mistake.

On the bottom of the throttle body, there are three hoses. Two, I believe, for coolant, on each side, facing the intake, and the same diameter. In the middle of the throttle body, on the bottom, facing straight down, there is a smaller hose nipple, no more than 1/4 in. diameter. I still have the hose, about 5 inches long, and cannot find where this hose connects to. The dealership, service manual, and my mechanic (pretty good with Nissans) have all struck out. Does anyone here have a clue? I'm headed to the junkyard now to look at a 2001 to see if I can figure it out, but I wanted to post here, just in case.

Thanks!

Don't look at a 2001, different engine and vacuum hose routing.

Does page EC-18 of the factory service manual help at all? I do see three hoses near the TB, though not all of them are labeled.

Welcome to NICO!

I wish it did. I just don't see anything that matches.

Below is a picture that Google image search was kind enough to give me, and I hope I'm not breaking any copyright laws. The TB is upside down in this picture, but it clearly shows the little hose nipple sticking straight up in the middle of the image. That's the hose that I'm having trouble with.

Since it always helps to have more info...

No SES codes. Vehicle starts and runs fine, but will not shift above 2nd gear. Everything was fine before I removed the throttle body.

Judging by this diagram. You just need a end cap (16599M)to seal it.

Well, lets see if this works:

The diagram on EC-17 shows a transmission input from the MAP/BARO switch solenoid valve. That gets it's vacuum from both the manifold and the EGRC solenoid valve. The EGRC solenoid valve also has a vacuum connection to the manifold.

The diagram on EC -18 doesn't show the connection coming off of the throttle body, but it looks like the EGRC solenoid valve is close enough for a 5 inch hose. I would feel around the valve carefully for a hidden hose nipple.

It also looks like there is possibly a vacuum tee where several hoses split off under that valve - you may find an open nipple there. There are lines going to several items from that point (the vacuum "gallery")

Follow hidden hoses with your fingers and see if you come to a vacuum tee where a hose is disconnected, or a broken hose end.

Based on the diagram at EC-17, I'd say you will find your problem following the hoses from those two valves.

You were entirely correct, the 2001 was very different.

I see that on the diagram, except:

1) I have a 5 inch hose. I do not have an end cap.
2) The vehicle shifted fine before I removed the throttle body. It currently will not give me 3rd or OD. It gave me 2nd, for a while, if I put the selector in 2nd gear (not in Drive). At that time, I was getting a TPS code due to a tight throttle cable. That is now fixed. I have no codes, acceleration is good, idle RPMs are good...but I have a hole, a hose, and only 1st gear.

Manufacturing date is 12/98, maybe a similar diagram for the 11/98s would reveal something else?

Good thinking...but no. The EGRC has 3 hoses coming off of it, all of which are already connected. Two of those connect to rails that run under the manifold, but I followed them beyond where the little hose would reach, and didn't find another tee. All I can think at this point is that maybe something near the EGR valve has a nipple on it, or there might be one hidden under the manifold that my fingers couldn't reach.

I drive an 02, otherwise I would just go look.

I would suggest a quick trip to the parts store for a small telescoping inspection mirror. They are pretty cheap. Should help you see in those blind spots.

I just saw those recently, and thought "what would I ever use that for?"

For the shifting issue, I seem to have ruled out that vacuum hose. Adjusting the TPS has gotten me back to having second gear, but I also appear to have a problem with the throttle cable sticking. I'm rapidly approaching the "can't wait to sell it" phase of ownership.

You should be able to adjust the throttle & cruise wires (FE-3 and EL-183), clean and relube the return spring at the accelerator pedal using any NLGI #2 grease, clean the throttle cables in the engine bay and that should take care of your sticking throttle cable problem.

Page EC-30 of the 2000 FSM seems to indicate an EVAP purge line at the bottom of the throttle body.
