About to do the suspension on my 99 Black Maxima(The stock suspension is shot and see no good reason to spend money for a new grandma OEM suspension). Wanted to get some advice on a few things as this is my first aftermarket suspension.
SuspensionEibach Pro Kit Springs Tokico Illimina 5 way adj shocks/struts
Based on what I have read here these seem like the most common/best choice. Are there any accessory parts that do not come with these kits that it would be a good idea to replace while doing this? Bushings or random other things? Links to buy and/or part numbers would be great as I have no hands on experience with suspensions.
Wheels2002 Mamixa SE OEM 17x7 six spoke silver wheels. 2003 350Z OEM 18" six spoke silver wheels (these fit on 99 Maxima, right?)I am open to other suggestions but am really *very* picky and don't seem to like what most others do. (i.e. do not like chrome, brush alum finish, or BBS type many spoke designs)
Can't seem to find a good used set of the 2002 Maxima SE wheels on ebay or craigslist so am looking at detroitwheelandtire.comCan anyone comment on the price/quality of wheels from detroitwheelandtire.com? Or about the "factory replicas" that are seen on ebay. I assume most ebay "factory replicas" are crap quality but don't know for a fact.
TiresAlso looking for tire recommendations. Size/Make. I drive very few miles a year so don't care much about tread wear and live in NC so don't care about snow. Really just care about price and wet/dry performance. Something easy to find around $120 per tire would be good, and HOT looking tread pattern would be nice too.
Other things I am thinking about doing.
Factory SE Fog lightsI have a GXE and wanted to know if the wiring harness has the right connections on a GXE or if something would need to be custom wired? Also, if I remember right(used to own a 97 SE) the control for the fog lights is on the multifunction stalk and is missing from a GXE. Is it a simple matter to just wire the fog lights up to turn on with the headlights?
Brakes. I have always thought that the brakes on Maximas are way undersized for the engine/car. Stopping power is mediocre at best and fade when used repeatedly above about 70 or so is HORRIBLE, but full Stillen brake kits are just TOO much money. Anyone have thoughts if any aftermarket rotors and pads are worth doing? Will any extra stopping power be had? Will the slotted/drilled rotors provide noticeable improvement in brake fade w/o a caliper kit? I am thinking about the brakes b/c like the suspension I will soon need new pads and rotors and would rather spend a little extra on performance if worth it. I KNOW the suspension is worth it but am not sure if brakes are worth it w/o caliper kit.
Thanx all,-vividvew
