I love my max an all but you don't stand a chance. Not against something with a turbo. That is unless of course he sucks at betting you off the line. You will probably pull ahead for a little but he'll kill you in the end.

This could be an interesting race.

Is your max auto or 5 speed?

If both of you are auto, then I'd say it might be a driver's race. His Gti should weigh just a little less than your max, but he also puts down less peak HP.

The only real advantage that he has is that his peak TQ is at 2000 rpms. Let us know!!!

What if it's a .08 liter turbo 1 cylinder?Turbo alone has nothing to do with anything. A good N/A motor can be just as--if not moreso--capable than a good turbo motor. And the VQ is a good N/A motor. I'd also argue that the GTI's 2.0 is NOT a good turbo motor. Unfortunately the VW's germantastic 2.0t is a ten year newer design than the Max's VQ. That's the Max's downfall, not the the lack of a turbo.

If your on with banging the gears, I think your friend will be suprised. The big six VQ puts out plenty of power to beat down a stock 2.0t, especially when it starts to breath in the upper rpm range.

Good luck and let us know what happens. --Mike

Maybe the site I looked at was wrong, but the 2006 GTI showed up as a 1.8 L.

Am I wrong? Not like .2 L is going to make a phenomenal difference, but I thought I'd clarify.

Why hasn't Nissan incorporated DI into any of it's engines?

The .2 liters won't make much difference.BUT, the 1.8 was a horrible, terrible, bad motor. And the 2.0 is not nearly as bad.

Nissan has done direct injection versions of various motors over the last several years. Just not in the US.

Just track experience, with no information to back me up, I'm going to say the GTI beats you in the corners unless you have some serious handling mods. I will say that you will most likely blow him off the line given the fact that your car is still relatively light, and a 5-spd. Though, I can definitely see the GTI beating you through corners as it must have less body weight to throw around and a lower center of gravity. I think your power in the race will rely on how well you exit your turns. If anything, your torque will win you this race if it can be won. Also, I think the GTI's only advantage over you in this race will be quick corners and turns. Sweeping 4's or 5's and maybe 3's can be powered through with your foot on the gas.

yes i am a 5 spd for all of you guys. i know im most likly wont beat him im just trying to prove that GTI are not that fast. i have beat 1.8t with mods and i have beat vr6 gtis and 20th anniversary gti. im just tired of vw fans with stock gtis thinking there the fastest thing on the street when gti and vr6 only run 15s. there are fast gtis out there dont get me wrong, but stock come on there turbo is smaller then a t28. Im not trying to say that my car is fast i just trying to prove that gti are not fast at all and new gti fans need a wake up call, and my maxima is going to give it to him!!!

My auto I30 was pushing almost 17s in the 1/4 mile.

Not sure how well you're going to fair against a GTI if the do 15s. Drivetrain loss due the my auto vs your manual was only in the 15 HP range.
