For the past several months, the starter has been making noise after the engine fires, kind of like the "Bendix is hanging up". But it cranks normally. Last week, it would not start, not even with a jump - all lights and accessories worked but the starter would not crank - just some clicks in the dash. When I turn the key to START, the dash indicator lights do not dim. I took the battery out and had it tested and it tested fine. I out it back in and the car started, albeit a bit sluggish, and continued to start sluggishly for the next few days, until it died, again. I took the battery out (which was only 6 months old) and bought a new one. It started, although still sluggishly. This morning, it died again. At least this time, it's in my garage. It seems that when the battery is disconnected for 20-30 minutes, then reconnected, it starts.
I've tried cycling the alarm (lock, unlock, etc) but that does nothing. Any thoughts on where I go from here? Do bad starters act this way?
Many thanks in advance,
Ralph - Phoenix, AZ
