I had an issue last week and wanted to run the solution my some experts out here for concurance. My I30 seemed to be driving fine last week when all of a sudden, it would not start. The battery seemed to have full power and all the lights inside would light up but it would not crank. I tried is several times and after a jump, got it to start. Although I thought it was a dead battery, when I got to my destination, it would not start, same situation. So, I take it into the mechanic and he does a battery check and it starts fine a couple times but when I leave, it does not start again. When I come back, with the symptom, he ids the starter as the problem.

So here is the question, he says it's the starter and charges me around $300 for a new one + labor. Now after I'm done and the car is working, I find these on the internet for half the price. Did I get ripped off? I am going to call and find out if he replaced the core as well but I am wondering if this sounds right for "quality" Infiniti parts. I suspect that he did not replace the core since it rarely goes bad.

So what do you guys think? B Man

Honestly, it all depends on where he bought the part. You can buy one from autozone or pepboys with a lifetime warranty for around $100. If he got it from the dealership, it would be about $250.

He would have likely turned in the old core in when he got the new one.
