Hi

Thank god I found this site. I am frustrated as anything. I have had the 99 I30 and has been driving well. Love the car. I have never had any major problems and I think I just hit one.

One day after driving it, I parked the car for a few minutes. Go back to start it and it won't start. It cranks, but won't "catch". There is gas since I filled it the day before to half tank.

Since than I have taken the car to 3 different mechanics here in Los Angeles. They all seem to think it is the ECM since no voltage is going to the "coil". Not sure what that is, but that's what they said.

Anyhow, couple of questions:

1. No one is able to find a 99 I30 ECM. I have the part #, but when I go on Ebay, the #s of the front of the ECM are different. Does that matter if the ECM is from a 99 I30?

For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories

This listing of Ebay has some similar #s. Mine are: EP A18-N05z85 - 94D. This one on Ebay is: EP A18-h45e2y-7124

Would that work?

2. Will I have to reprogram my keys to start this? Could that be the reason that one mechanic who got a used ECM couldn't start the car?

3. In LA, do you know of any good Infinity mechanic?

I don't have money for a brand new one (about $1,500)!!!!!

Please help. Thanks.Anand

Two things you can do for now. Clean the the ground leads (two of them, I remember) just behind and slightly offset from the oil filler cap. Use dielectric grease during installation. After that, wiggle the large wiring harness running on top of the engine, pax side. Start the engine and see what happens.

A mechanic with a Consult (Infiniti or Nissan and some private mechanics) will be able to do a very detailed diagnosis of the car's electronics and let you know for sure if the ECM is the problem. So if you're shopping good Infiniti mechanics, just ask them if they have a Consult (it's a handheld diagnostic computer specifically for Nissans).

Thank you for both the replies. I will have the mechanic(where it is right now) try these out.

I did manage to find a computer and bought it for $125. Even if it is not the computer, I can just hang to this for future. I am hoping that it works with it though. I will have to have the computer re=programmed correct??? To have the keys working and all?

Thanks

Something similar happened to me a few months ago - except my car finally seized up completely. Between the manual and a friend who works for Infiniti, we found out it was my air compressor that needed to be replaced. My husband fixed it himself, and we only spent about $300 total since we only needed to buy the compressor.
