I don't find anything on this topic using search.

I need to replace the hood support gas struts on my 1999 Infiniti I30. My first problem is three auto parts stores have NO replacement part listing. I see some things listed on the internet but some appear to be kits for changing to gas struts. I found a listing for 'atsugi unisia' without a picture but that meant nothing to me. Are these struts listed under a different model or description?

I also see listings for right and left. Are they different per side on '99 I30?

This next question is just me being careful. These gas struts appear to snap on over a ball fitting top and bottom. They seem tighter than I would expect to pop off. I didn't want to force it with a pry bar; especially since I don't have a replacement yet. Is there any trick to removing them?

Your help is appreciated.

You have to unscrew the ball studs to get them off. The aftermarket ones should come with new ball studs.

Thanks for the info.

Do you happen to know if the gas struts are available only at the Infiniti dealership?

You should be able to get them at any reputable parts store.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

I have tried Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and Murrays. I'll try NAPA next.Maybe the parts counter people weren't looking in the right category.

If you haven;t done so, you can buy it from Joe (Scottsdale Infiniti) at "infinitipartsUSA.com", 1-888-216-5328. Make sure you specify left and right as the mounting are different.
