Hey all, thanks in advance for the help.

So just today my 99 G20 started making a grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. I was driving a lot today, some short trips around town and then 2 hours of highway travel, no problems. When I got back into town went out again. Car is high mileage (~156k) but no related problems while ive owned it (2+ years).

With music on, sounded like airplanes overhead. With no sound I thought I was dragging something significant under my car. Checked underneath there is nothing.

So it's a loud grinding sound, only at low speeds e.g. accelerating from stop or braking/coasting to a stop. Felt a little vibration inside the car.

From outside the car its still audible, roommate suggested maybe slightly louder from the left side, but I'd say not significantly.

I'd appreciate ideas, but I am going to get it checked when I can. Will let y'all know the diagnosis when I can.

Thanks,Noah

Brake pads or wheel bearings as with all cars for the past 100 years. What was your grade in the " History of Automotive Technology".

Just kidding but those who wish to diagnose their own vehicles would be well served with night school at local votech. They teach some neat and useful things for now and future.

Electronics Technology will be useful also when cars are powered by batteries but they will still have some brakes and many bearing.

for the record it turned out rear left caliper had "seized up" (technical term from the technician ). brake pad wore down, one rotor needed replacing, other needed machining, and of course the caliper needed to be replaced. goodbye g20

156k is not high mileage for a G20.................300k is! I have seen them with greater than 450k............great car due to good mpg especially with MT.

Obviously previous own didn't do his 90 day mainteances.

We recommend that the brake calipliers get rebuilt every 100k-120k.

Easy to run a car down to a pile of dog, if you don't spend frequently

It will serve you better to replace both rear rotors at once.

Was the caliper pin on the seized caliper not lubricated?
