I had the 240sx parked out on the side of the road.

Someone comes to the door askin who owns the lil blue car. Then proceeds to tell me he hit it with his work truck, backed right into it from behind.

Rear bumper to rear bumper contact, black marks on the pavement showing the movement of my 240sx.

I look and can barely see where the paint is cracked near the license plate, hardly visible. He even said "man it was quite the smack'

The plastic bumper cover itself is ever so slightly pushed in a bit, but not very much.(you can see it where the back center tail peice meets the bumper) I can still feel the bumper fully extended underneath the cover.

I'm shocked that the rear wasn't caved in....were these cars known to have good ratings in bumper tests? Obviously the fact that it was a straight impact...as far as i know...

THERE IS ALWAYS UNDERLYING DAMAGE. IT CAN BE FOUND IN THE BODY, THE BUMPER CORE, THE FRAME, THE DIFFERENTIAL, THE BRAKES, THE TRANSMISSION, THE AXLE/DRIVESHAFTS, ETC. THERE ARE NUMEROUS PLACE WHERE HIDDEN DAMAGES CAN BE.

I hope bumper contact didn't hurt your drivetrain...(look up) but bumper support or frame damage is understandable.

UMM IF IT MOVED THE CAR AND THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED OR THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK IT COULD DAMAGE THE DRIVETRAIN.

I think maybe where it was a *bit* slippery out it helped in making the car move.

I drove the car all that day after and then yesterday as well with no apparent problems through all rev ranges of the tach. I would have thought that at least my tail lights would have been smashed.

eidt - plus the tire mark would indicate there was no drivetrain movement, that she was just shoved..... correct?

I'll keep driving her lots, the person doesn't live very far away :)
