Hey all, a friend of mine has a '99 Altima. He was telling me that whenever he slows down or brakes, the car makes a groaning type sound up front. He said it sounded like it was coming from some part of the suspension, but didn't know which part. He did say it wasn't the squealing of worn brake pads or the clicking of cv joints. I haven't been in the car, so unfortunately I can't be more specific, but hopefully I can get some possible ideas of what is wrong with it to help him out. Thanks in advance.

Without more info I would raise the front wheels off of the ground by using strudy jack stands and then crank the car and out it in drive and then apply the brakes. This way he can see just where the noise is coming from, I suspect the front drive assembly. I assume he has standard size tires on it and this is not a tire rubbing noise.
