Just so you know, the procedure is:
1) Get the car up to operating temperature and then shut it down.
2) Remove the gas cap and then pull the fuse for the fuel pump. Start the car and run it until it dies. Crank it once or twice more for good measure. You've now released fuel pressure.
3) Pull all plugs and wires. Make sure you don't manage to zap yourself when doing the test.
3) Carefully thread the tester in to the spark plug wells, hold the gas pedal all the way down and crank the car 4 or 5 times. Repeat for each cylinder. I did the test twice total just to make sure I was getting consistent numbers. Make sure you're at WOT.
4) The compression specs are mentioned above. If you've got one or more low cylinders, dump a cap full of oil down the spark plug well and wait a minute or two and then retest. If your numbers jump up significantly, you may have damaged rings. If you've got two adjacent cylinders that are low, it may be the head gasket.
5) If you've got poor compression on one of more cylinders, I'd have someone do a leakdown test to pinpoint the problem.
Anyone else please feel free to correct me if I missed something here. It's pretty damn late and I'm tired.
