Hey all,I have a 98 QX4 with the 3.3L 168hp engine. Is it possible to swap it for the newer 3.5L 268hp engine?

If so, what "mods" will have to be done? Will the computer need to be switched over, etc?

Thanks!

Yup, its possible. You'd need the ECU & a couple of other things but I am fairly certain that the motor mounts are the same & I know that the 3.5 will hook right up to your transmission. You might have to do a bit of hood trimming as I believe that the 3.5 is a bit taller... but I might be wrong about that or about the motor mounts (but I think I am coorect on that one).

I'm trying to find out if the later model 6 speed manual trans will bolt up to my 3.3L in a 04 frontier crew cab short bed??? If so, what mods will it require (i.e., overdrive sensor, drive shaft, mounts, etc.). The reason I want to do this is lower my RPM's on the freeway (it's at 3000 @ 65 mph) and possilby get better overall gas milage.

Does anybody know???

bigger tires will lower your RPMs. A 33" tire will lower it 500rpm. a 31" maybe 200rpm. bigger engine or 6 speed transmission. It was the first thing I didn't like about my car. my max speed is about 85, 90 downhill.

If you do this let me know how it went and if it is worth it. I thought of this as well but not sure if i can afford it right now. would you take it to somebody or do it yourself?

Well, I'd probably take it to some garage...however I sold my QX4 to my girlfriend and she won't let me do anything fun to it anymore :'(

ok soo if I got this correctly...in order to swap in the vq35 you need:

vq35 motor mounts (would the G35/350z motor mounts work?)vq35 ecu+wiring harnessvq35 Long block with accesoriesvg33 transmission and drivetrain

what about the exhaust manifold? and can you use a 350z/G35 motor set? and what about the gauge cluster? would it read the rpms correctly?

has anybody actually done this swap before?
