Help with a most annoying problem. My 1998 QX4 just recently started doing something crazy. It thinks that one of the doors isn't closed good, when in my opinion they are. The dummy light on the dash flashes on and off going down the road, as do the interior lights. I've opened and closed all the doors with authority and confirmed that none seem loose. What's going on? HELP!

Hmm. Check all doors, tailgate, and rear glass. If nothing, then sit in the car and have somebody push around on all the doors, one at a time, until you see the light flash accordingly. That will help you narrow it down to which switch can be going bad.

This man always has the good advice. I was going to suggest removing the doors. .

Actually, I wasn't. . . but that'd be kinda cool. . the Jeep guys do it, right?

haha then you can roll like this guy But as far as your erratic light, mine does that whenever the hatch is partially popped and i'm driving, but i'm sure you already checked that.

I've seen that sorta flexing in a Jeep (I've got a 88 Cherokee) but never in a QX4. Just seems wrong.

That is a 97 pathfinder, same chassis and engine as a QX4, different body trims and lights. That particular one has the 2" suspension lift from http://www.4x4parts.com THIS is a QX4 on flex.... stock suspension... (mine)

haha no, i had to pull this stock jeep out of some snow and the only thing i had was a tiny ratchet strap, and tied it to my end of the bumper and it froze on there, had to get a hacksaw to get it off.

Oh I kidd. I've taken my QX4 off road alot. I actually used it as my hunting vehicle last year and it did really well. I put it through some really deep mud, water, and rough spots. No rock crawling however. I did tear the CV Boots.

Finally got around to finding it. It was that little switch that pushes in to tell the computer the door is closed. It got worse, to the point that it always showed being open and the alarm would go off when it was locked. I'm sure it was this because I swapped the one from the passenger door to the driver's door and then my problem moved doors. For now i've got is shimmed a little, but need to find another one. Anyone got a wrecked QX4?
