98 Q45 tire size and suggestions ?

Been a while since I have been here but I have had a chance to do some maintenace which I already completed : front tie rods, rotors, brakes, fuel filter/lines, air filter, full synthetic oil change, cleaned MAF, belts, coolants everything was replaced with ALL OE waiting on coil packs and plugs .Now its getting cold and need new tires I prefer a quiet tire something good for handling could be wider also , this is going on the STOCK rims 16"

I went with Consumer Reports recommended Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus. It had the best all around with a special emphasis on being quiet. The Michelin Premier A/S were noted as being noisy, especially on concrete.

I'm a big fan of the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2.. Great price, Ive put about 15-20k on the set on my G35 (so roughly half worn) and they're still very quiet and I haven't noticed any decrease in handling wet or dry. Overall very highly recommended, and a lot cheaper than most other tires in its category.

Toyo and Lexani tires are great and give you a variety of sizes and ratings but don't last as long. I currently have the Goodyear assurance comforted touring tires and its a comfortable ride with a lot of grip for a all season and also great in the rain. and it comes with a 60,000 mile warranty I can easily do 50-55 mph on one of those circular ramps on the freeway where it says to do only 20 mph. these tires are really sticky when the road isn't wet but it still gives impressive traction on a wet road.

It does also depend on what you're going for and what conditions you drive in. Michelins are a little noisy, I have the Sport Pilots but they are YR rated, don't last long but they stick like nobodies business. On rainy days I drive my XTerra and I never see snow.

In 16" you can get very nice high performance tires for nothing if you want sticky, all the tires in this size are so cheap these days it is amazing. I just put the Bridgestone RE 71 R's on my old 300ZX and they are amzing for around $100 a tire.

For me I stick to the 2 big brands, Bridgestone and Michelin, all others just end up not cutting it for me when performance is the key ingredient.

Michelins were good until they started making them in Japan or China (can't remember), the sidewalls crack way too easily and has a softer rubber which is easier to puncture, but if you got some that were manufactured in Canada then you got yourself a good set, absolutely phenomenal, worth every penny.

Most of the tires they make are made in USA now, they have 12 plants in US. The LTX on my XTerra have over 45k on them and still have tons of tread and are as tough as any tire I have ever used.

I had a set of Pilot Sports on the Q for over 5 years and they were ROCK solid. The new set of tires I have on there are also rock solid and I have never had a flat with any Michelins.

Michelin hands down makes the best tires on the road in general. of course like anything, they make cheap tires like anyone else. I'm not sure about any claims that sidewalls crack easily or any of that, I'd be surprised if that was true across the board or maybe for only a select few instances or outstanding circumstances. You might be able to find a specific brand/model for a specific application that outperforms a similar michelin but that's not too often. The Pilot sport PS2 and pilot super sport are FANTASTIC summer tires, there's not a better combination of wear, dry traction, and wet traction out there, but of course you pay for it.

only the ones that were made in China or Japan (can't remember) crack easily and have a softer rubber, thus Michelin moved their manufacturing plants to either here in the USA and possibly a few still in Canada. but the ones manufactured off shores can/are still in the market so my point previously was to watch out for those. I agree that Michelin is the best in the business.
