I just bought a 98 q45. When I brake at low speeds or brake lightly I hear a thud thud thud sound from the right side of the car. It disappears if I brake hard or if I am at speeds over 40kph. Oddly enough the noise is not present when the brakes are stone cold. It starts becoming evident about two blocks after I leave in the morning.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am inclined to replacing brake rotors and pads.

Thanks,

Jojo

Do you feel anything in the seat or the wheel when you hear this noise?

What does the friction surface of the rotors look like? Can you see how much brake pad you have left? With the wheel in the air, grab the tire at 12:00 and 6:00...does anything feel loose?

Yes I can feel the thud thud in the steering wheel and can even see the shift lever move in sync. I will lift the car and pull the wheel this weekend.

It turned out to be a combination of factors.

1. Previous owner resurfaced the rotors past the limits.
2. Brakes pads were installed with broken pad retainers.

Installed new rotors, pads and hardware and all is good.
