'98 Q45 Radio issues

My radio comes on and off randomly, usually accompanied by a loud POP. If I tap the console near the radio, it will usually come back on. Also, the volume controller doesn't work correctly, it must be turned multiple times to get the desired volume. Any thoughts?

Seems like you have a couple of issues going on here since it's a 98 the radio is going bad like all electronics. Time to get a stock replacement or upgrade to something new.

I can live with the volume knob problem, but the popping on/off is a real problem. Could this be an amp problem? I've also been told that the Bose system in these cars is tough to replace for some reason.

Failing solder joints-remove radio and send in for repair-many inet advertisers rebuild these radios inexpensively and are familiar with the common issues
