Hi There:

On my 98 Q, I was trying to diagnose the keyless entry arming and disarming when I realized the left rear door lock would unlock, buy not lock. Then, I tried the key in the drivers door, no luck. It would only unlock. Then, I tried the master switch in the drivers door panel. No luck.

Am I missing something? Unfortunately, I never noticed whether that door was locking, but all my interior lights would go on and off with the keyless remote, so I assume it was until today. The only thing I did on that door was replace the door handle. Is it possible I broke a wire or bumped something loose inside the door?

I also read the BCM (body control module) controls the door locks -- is it possible mine is going bad?

If anyone knows what to check it would be greatly appreciated. I am going to remove the door panel and se if there is anything loose or broken.

Thanks.

If you read in the EL section of the FSM you can do a self diagnosis of the LAN system. I'd try that and see what comes up, it could either be a bad actuator or something along those lines (LCU).

Well, I found the solution through trial and error. I noticed that all of the other door locks worked fine, so i started unplugging some connections in the rear doors. What I found was that when the right rear door window switch was unplugged, not only did the window not work (obviously), but the door lock did not function either.

So, I removed the right rear window switch and plugged it into the left rear window switch connector and voila!! it worked the locking assembly. I then opened up the original left rear window switch and found some corrosion on the circuit board. I cleaned it off with some electrical connector spray, but it did not work. I then bought one from a parts car and eveything works correctly again.

Not only that, but my parking lights flash at least two times when arming the system. Makes me very content. One more project to cross off the list. :D The next project is to replace the rear Bose amps and get the stereo sound back to factory. I unplugged them for the time being because the PO blew the amps and it sounded like crap.

Will post again and ultimately snap a few photos once we get a decent thaw. We just got another 5 inches of snow last night.
