I just acquired a 98 Q45 from my brother, so I am new to working on Infiniti cars. I have done most of my own automotive work since I was about 15 including rebuilding engines and numerous automatic transmissions. I don't mind turning wrenches but have learned over the years that sometimes it pays to ask first.

There is a vibration in the front end that comes and goes beginning about 60 mph. If I tap the brake or can make a slow turn, either way, the vibration stops for a while, then returns. My bother has a Lexus that had a similar problem that was resolved with new front struts. Does this solution sound correct for the Q45?

Thanks for your help.

Assuming the tires are in good condition and the wheels are aligned, most likely the problem is with the tension rods. Of course the struts may also be due for replacement.

Do a search on tension rods and you will find a wealth of information about it. You have a choice of replacing the entire assembly or just the bushing (requires machine press). OEM parts are available from NICO sponsor, Ios (Infiniti of Scottsdale) - infinitipartsUSA.com. At 25% off MSRP, very hard to beat.

Just look at the suspension for any wear sometimes the TopHats can cause the issue if the suspension has been changed and not the top hats.

Vibrations around 60mph points to a single irregularity roughly at 13 HZ.However the fact that braking temporarily stops it points to the possibility of a difference beat at 13 HZ.

Make sure tires meet oem specs for radial force deviation.

Vibrations can start from defective tires but not be properly damped by worn shocks.

By "top hats", he may mean front strut bearings.
