Hello everyone.

I'm thinking about replacing the OEM machined wheels with OEM chrome wheels for my 98 Q45. Anyone have any experience with the chrome wheels vs. machined finish wheels?

I've had both and they both look good in my opinion. I have a set of 17" chrome touring wheels if interested, brand new.

Not sure oem wheels were ever chromed as there are numerous TSB warning against this practice. Often dealers would send them out to be chromed as a money making option since wheels are not covered under warranty for finish or road hazards.

Yes, but a good Chrome'ing shop takes OEM rims, chromes them and swaps them. There should be zero issue provided you 100% sure that your getting OEM quality back. If you have the time you could give them your rims and have them chromed, will take your car out of service for a few days.

I have a place in LA that does it on a swap out, never an issue, my dad did it with many sets of rims and never had an issue, including returning those to a leasing company (stupid if you ask me but he wanted them chormed) so for sure warranty is not deleted as long as they are OEM. Since you have no warranty, if you like the look and know your getting OEM rims back go for it.

im not a huge fan of chrome wheels because of the maintenance it takes to keep them looking good.. small defects on natural finish aluminum doesnt show up as much, IMO.

Why would anyone waste time cleaning off brake dust as that is a sign of oem high quality fast wearing pads?

Because you want your car to be clean that's why! It's not that hard to understand. Show me a brand new pad that doesn't produce brake dust at all and I'll mail you a check for $0.01 cents. :rotflmao
