Hi There:

I also posted this in the Q45 Forum, but firgured I would try here as well. On my 98 Q, I bought two factory remotes and went through the programming sequence correctly. They both worked properly ( locked and unloced the doors, trunk release fine and panic alarm as well).

The only problem is that the parking lights do not flash and horm does not beep when arming or disarming the system. My friedn had a 98 and his always beeped the horn once and flashed the lights once on arming and then flashed the lights twice on disarming.

I read that my car may be in "Valet mode" but I have yet to find out how to get it out of that mode and back to active alarm mode. I tried holding the lock and unlock buttons down for 2-5 secs (read it online) but all that did was deactivate the remotes. Now, I have to reprogram them and start over again.

Does anyone know how to properly remove the valet mode and get my alarm to function properly? I have not tried to roll down the drivers window, arm the system and then unlock the door from the inside and see whether the alarm sounds. From what I can see, the security light on the dash is flashing correctly to show the system is armed. Plus, the car starts with no problems.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Other than that, I love my first Q!!

I think you need to press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 5 or 10 seconds to change that.

** UPDATE ***

Ok, I found out the problem. I also posted in the IOM section as well. It turns out that the drivers rear door window switch also controls the door lock signal. The door was unlocking, but not locking with the master switch and/or keyless. So, the system would not completely arm itself bc it did not receive the message that all four doors were closed and locked. That seems to be why my lights would not flash.

I replaced that switch and now all the doors lock and unlock and the lights at least flashh two times for armed. They don't flash the one time on disarming, but I can live with it the way it is.

I did discover that in the process of removing that dreaded window tint on the rear window, I ended up scraping off some of the keyless remote antennae, which is painted onto the window. So, in addition to repairing the defroster lines that I severed, I will have to also repair the keyless antennae so I can use the keyless more than a foot away form the car. Right now, I have to stand right next to the car and point the remote at the rear window to activate my alarm system. Really a PITA, but it can and will be fixed shortly.

Hope this helps one or more of you out there who know about as much as I did about the electrical system in our cars (nada!!). That is the purpose of this forum --- so far, most members have been a great help.

I will post more as I complete one project at a time.

Later,

Ted
