Ive been away from the Nissan world for a long time but I now have a 98 Pathfinder that recently started having some issues. Today I pressure washed the engine bay (gently, was careful not to spray any electrical components directly) and started the car up after and it ran fine. About an hour later I started it again and it seemed like it was misfiring, threw a check engine light and code for cylinder #2 misfire.

I pulled the wire for cylinder #2 while idling and it made no difference. I noticed the spark was orange not blue so it seemed weak. Is it possible to replace the coil on these distributors? I can only seem to find the entire unit and it was recently replaced. Also couldnt seem to find a condenser and I know that a bad condenser can cause a misfire.

I cleaned all the harness connections and the MAF and it seemed to get better but its still misfiring. Any ideas? Im lost on this one.

If you have good spark on 5 cylinders (you can easily check a couple) and a miss on #2, it is probably moisture under the cap, or moisture somewhere inside the distributor. Or possibly under the connector for the #2 wire at the cap. Probably drying it out will help. The coil is fine if it is getting good spark on the other 5 cylinders. Make sure the inside of the cap is clean.

Small parts are getting harder to find. I often check on Ebay first. I look for national brands, and then I check those prices elsewhere. If you only find parts from China listed on Ebay, you may have some trouble sourcing the part. Nissan maybe ( many small parts have been discontinued) or possibly NAPA. They supply the trade, so they might be able to help.

There are distributor parts listed on Ebay.
