Hello everyone I'm new to this site so first off just wanna say hello 2 everyone. Anyway, i've got a 98 Nissan Altima GXE, and i bought it used with 104,000 miles on it in January, now because of my job i've put over 21,000 miles on it since then, now everything was fine with the engine until about 2 weeks ago, when it all of the sudden it started to loose power when i was getting off the freeway one day, it would barely accelerate, and when you put your foot on the gas to accelerate it blows out this whiteish, blueish kind of smoke, and it has a really strong gas smell. Also that same day, i had my air conditioner running, and water started dripping down from under the glove box. And also another thing that I noticed was that while all of this was happening, i stuck my finger in the exaust pipe, now this was because the smell of the gas was just so strong that it almost seemed like gas was coming out of it, and it was, gas was getting literally sprayed out of the exuast pipe everytime you put your foot on the gas. So if anyone could maybe give me an idea of what might be causing this it would be greatly appreciated. I was told by another person that one of the fuel injectors was stuck. This makes sense because when the car does this, it only does it for that day, and then the next morning when you start it up, everything is fine, but i have a feeling that the problem might be bigger than that, so if anyone knows what this is please give me some insight.

Welcome to nico. well to starti would look at the coolent first to see if there is oil and do the same with the oil just to see if the head gasket is bad. but is there a CEL on if so try to get it read so you can see if its something else.

yes there is an engine light code on, itz been on ever since i bought the car. The codes came out as something with the evaporation system, and and the Egr system. But I still dont know what the actual problem is. I checked the coolant, and there wasn't any oil in it. I also checked the oil and it didnt have any coolant in it, so I still kinda clueless about what it is that's causing the car to do what it's doing.

Possibly one or two things since you mentioned water started to drip from behind the glove box this could have leak down into the ECM computer or you may have a mass air flow issue. And as opposed the check eninge lite that if the EGR valve is stuck this can cause a running or power loss issues as well. But it kinda sounds like ECM or Mass air flow making it run extremely rich overfueling the engine just some possibilities to look at.

You really need to pull the ECU codes and have someone look them up. If you post up the codes in here, I can look them up. I think that would be the key.

I would also monitor your engine's oil consumption and or coolant consumption. Blowing smoke is a bad thing. The acceleration problem and strong smell of gas sounds like you may have an injector problem. I would be interested to see if you are getting a misfire code of some sort.bud

Or if the spark plugs are gapped correctly.

Aight here is the deal, I took the car to the dealer and they read the codes and ran a diagnostics to get down the bottom of the problem. The Codes were P0400 EGR SYS. PROBLEM, P0300 RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE, P0440 EVAP SYSTEM PROBLEM, and then when i took it to the dealership a couple weeks later they came up with a multiple misfire code. Now the dealer claims they fixed the egr system, and the engine light has been off since. The car also seems to run noticeably better. However, i haven't attempted to use the air conditioner because im scared that it will cause the car to do what it was doing. I changed the spark plugs about i'd say....2-3 weeks ago, and the looked fine. The dealer claimed they couldn't figure out why the multiple missfires code came up also, so that's another reason why I have the slightest feeling that the problem still isn't solved quite yet. I will however look into the ECM though. As for the mass air flow problem I dont know anything about that, I'd probably have 2 take it back 2 the dealer and get them 2 run a test and see if there is a mass air flow problem.

I have the same issue and my mecanic is still trying to figure out what to do because I left him the car today and he said all day he had someone drove it and it is driving fine and not acting up. but the moment I get it back and drove for a few days it will happen again. I need to know if you have the problem solve. As soon as I do I will post it. thanks yah
