Thanks for your suggestion. Will call Duc and ask him to see if he can take a good look at my I30. hope he can make it run smooth as before.

my wife took the car out for errands and she felt it drives better now. i noticed that rpm indicator goes to 2500 or so and drops immediately when i take my foot off pedal. but after driving for a while (like 5 or 10mins) it seems to go up to 3000 or so and holds on there even if i take my foot off pedal. so I still have a feeling that some harness or some component(s) is not working at its peak performance. i'll request if he can test drive the car (even for a day or two) so he can get a good idea as to what i'm talking about.

Hi

where is Idle Air Control Valve?? is it something anyone can do easily or does it need to go to mechanic shop?

its pretty smooth at low speeds (around 40s or 50s) but when driving at 70s, i feel steering wheel is shaking a bit. is that normal?

I want to drive it for a few days so when i drop off for service, I can let the servicing guy know about these issues.

thanks

So you still have 1 coil of questionable quality. Have you cleaned the MAF sensor yet? IAC valve cleaning link is below. You have a lot of DIY info within this forum - look for the I30/I35/Maxima FAQs

sounds like MAF is some important component...are there any pics with instructions etc on how to locate this part/cleaning?

i'll dropby at autozone and see if they can help.

thanks

Bought the MAF cleaner from autozone and tried to clean this as shown in this page: http://www.q45.org/maf.html

Seperating that part must be a hard thing. I loosed the clamp and also undid the bolt holding the connector/harness. I didn't want to pull with force. I tried to wiggle a bit but it didn't come apart. So I left it back without cleaning. However, I did lift that thing up and tried to look beyond that metallic mesh (sensor in the cylinder)...it looked mostly like dark grey/black and doesn't appear to have any dust etc on the sensor (the picture in above site clearly shows the difference between dirty/clean MAF sensor). I didnt want to break any things or cause other damage while trying to clean this.

the RPM does go above 2500 if i push the gas pedal really hard and hold it there (with another foot on brake just to see if RPM ever goes up at all). at 40mph it goes to 2000 and stays around 2500 for 65-70mph. During merging on highway, when I give gas, I feel good some vibration on gas pedal...even though it ramps up the speed i feel its holding back or something.. Is that normal?

thanks

been a while since i updated this thread with status...

i gave the MAF thing a good wash (with MAF cleaner from autozone)..just sprayed ofcourse without touching it. i don't feel the vibration in gas pedal anymore when i try to ramp from 60-70. however, when i drive at 70 or so in highway, looks like RPM is still clamped at 2500. could this be due to dirty IAC valve or anything else?

thank you

no more SES light on since a week or two.

so is that 2500 RPM ok at steady speed of 70mph? if i floor the gas pedal, RPM does go over 3500 but during steady speed it seems to hang around less than or equal to 2500.

my wife drives this car and she still feels it doesn't accelerate as fast (during merging time on highway) as it used to before. could it be that only 5 cylinders are cranking or something of that sort and its not getting full horsepower?

thanks

We're out of 'limp' mode now...excellent. You still have one suspect coil pack that needs to be replaced. A while back, I told you to clean the engine ground wires. Poor grounding may cause misfire and fuel metering issues. There are 2 ground lugs, mounted on top of the engine. Those grounding points are adjacent to the intake manifold, close to #2 fuel injector. Clean the lugs as well as the engine frame where they are mounted and then apply dielectric grease.

Check the air filter and fuel filter and replace them if you haven't done so in a while. The fuel filter is mounted on the firewall, besides the brake booster. For the fuel filter, make sure the line is empty before you pull it out. With the engine running, pull out the Fuel Pump fuse (15A, blue, in the fuse box below the instrument panel, left side of steering wheel) until the engine dies. Then crank the engine at least once to make sure the fuel line is empty. A FIRE HAZARD EXIST IF YOU DON'T EMPTY THE FUEL LINE prior to filter removal. Once removed, try blowing air thru the fuel filter, If you could do so easily, the filter is still good. Otherwise, the filter is partially clogged and restricting fuel flow.

Perform all of the above and report back.

are you talking about the two bolts as shown in this pic:

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507

i cleaned them up when i replaced my knock sensor but i didn't apply any dielectric grease. i could put that.

i'll do that and see if i can replace my coil 5 which seems to be only non-nissan coil. a month or two ago when i was talking to some mechanic round the corner he was saying there is some technique on how to install coil? what could it be other than just taking out old one and put new one back in?

thanks

Look like different ground points. The ground wires I'm referring to are the ones coming from the main engine harness. The ground wires are adjacent to the front section of the intake plenum, besides fuel injector #2 in Bank 2

will try to see if i can find engine ground wires...can i find where they are in some pic. may be in fsm?

thanks

Could you provide information on where did you get the set of Nissan coils? Thanks. I probably got the same situation and am going to replace the remaining 5 coils.
