98 I30T is starting way rough

I've searched, and maybe I'm just oblivious, but I'd just like to cover my bases and make sure I have all the info I can get.

In the past, I've had starter issues where I had to give it some gas to start it. As long as I tapped the accelerator, it would wake up fine.

Well, the car had been hanging out for about a week with no activity, and when I went to start it yesterday it sounded like a cat being thrown underwater. Instead of "vrrent-rrent-rrent-vroooom" its more like "vzzhzhzhzeeoowwerrororr". I've started it 5 or 6 times since then, to no avail (it only feels like the car isn't going to start, i've just had to stop and take a second to let it sit, but it has eventually started every time, knock on wood!). It feels different from the problem in the past, as while it's starting up with horrible noises, if i accelerate the engine will rev, it just wont stay on sometimes. What should I check for first?

have somewhere check your charging system (alternator and battery) and maybe your starter is going out... sounds like it to me but in association with the car not staying on I suggest you check your charging system

=o I'm no pro so someone might have have some more help
