So starting on Friday, my '98 i30 started overheating. It didn't peg out the gauge, but got right to the line. Turned on the heater full blast, it's only shooting cool air. Get home, check for leaks but can't really see anything due to cap spewing while I was driving so everything is wet. Top up coolant, leave cap off to burp the lines and let it run for 15 minutes or so. Cap it off, let it run for a while, short drive to the store, it's fine. Fast forward to today, I take my wife to work via freeway and don't have a problem. Take city streets home, and sure enough I start overheating again. Turn on heater again, still blowing cool air. Limp it home, let it cool down, and start looking around. While checking the hoses, I squeezed the top radiator hose, and little air bubbles start coming out where the fins meet the top of the radiator. I'm assuming I have a cracked radiator, but I figure I'd double check here first in case anyone else has seen this before. Is my best bet to replace the radiator?

Just wanted to throw an update here. Successfully swapped out the old radiator for a shiny new one. Super simple to do, wish I had time to do a step by step with pics, but I had to finish before my daughter came home. My one recommendation is to jack up or put your car on ramps before you start. That way you can get to the lower hose connection, ATF cooler hoses, and radiator drain plug easier. Plus, it makes burping the coolant system way easier in the end. Also a 5 gallon drain pan with spout came in handy big time when it was time to dispose of the used fluids. She's back to running nice and cool as usual, and great unexpected bonus is my AC is running colder than it EVER has since I've had it. Yay!

if you dont put antisieze on the little plastic drain plug in the radiator it might not uncrew next time
Antisieze also works great on the hoses
