800 doesnt sound too bad for a I with 100k.....

These cars are reliable, but it depends on what was done maintenance.

Who is giving the warranty, and what is covered?

If you have maintained the car per board standards, I'd say put it in your maintenance kitty. At least you will have access to it. If your car goes one year or 12K miles without a failure, the funds are gone. $800 can cover a pretty substantial repair.

You must differentiate between the costs of routine wear and tear items : shocks, rubber belts and hoses, rubber bushings and boots, tires, brakes and routine annual fluid changes plus oil FROM mechanical failures........like ac compressors, alternators, transmissions, window regulators, fuel pumps, ignition coils.

Probably $6,000 at risk on things that might be covered but what are the chances each 12,000 mile period.........10% might reflect a $800 insurance payment.

This does not relieve you of the 10 cents per mile you need to spend on things not covered [$1200 per year].

You are gamb|ing the sure payments [$800 x 5 years ] vs the sure requirements of at least that amount for repairs.

$800 won't fix much if you have a real failure [ac, transmission steering].

So true. I now think of maintenance and repairs lumped together under necessary expenditures to keep the car running in as new condition per OEM specifications.

My point being the $800 may not be applied to such expenditures if it is spent on a warranty that only covers particular catastrophic failures, but it will be available for at least the routine maintenance which will be required in that year of ownership.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

How you divi up the 8-15 cents per mile driven over the next 100,000 miles of driving is immaterial as long as you have the $8,000-$15,000 available.

Just budget the $10,000 [over 6 years] and you should be fine.

The vehicle saving account needs two compartments so the $800 accures [accumulates] each year and is not used for maintenance that way you have the $3,000 when you need it.

Or if something happens you have the $3,000 for a downpayment in case you decide not to fix the car.
