'98 engine hesitation when accelerating?

It will start and idle fine. But when I try to take off, it just smothers down until it reaches 3-4K RPM. Fuel filter is fine, new plugs and wires. After it gets over the "smothering"it will rev and run like a raped ape. Any clues on what it could be? It's not showing the CEL so I'm lost. Thanks in advance, Mike.

Have you checked timing? If the car's timing is retarted, it will run this way.

Another thing to check is the injectors. How did the plugs look when you replaced them?

Wow, 3 months to get a reply. Anyways, it turned out to be the fuel pump crapping out. The plugs looked O.K. but a new F/P and she's running fine now. Thanks for the reply tho. Mike

Thats good, I eventually would have gotten to the fuel area. Would have answered sooner, but rarely come on this side of the site. Mainly the reason i barly come over here, no one's here.
