98 ecu question

hi i got a question, will manual trans obd2 ecu from 96 240sx work in manual trans 98 240sx ?the reason of me asking is because 96-2 ecu dint have obd2 readiness tests and i think you could reset the ecu and go and have emission test done the same day without tripping a code (it takes some time for ecu to finish diagnostics), wich is not possible with 97-98 ecu because it will show not ready code . this would be very helpfull for guys with headers and other mods that throw ecu cel .let me know what you guys think . thanx
