Try taking the VIN number from the dash and take it to a dealer. Somewhere in that number should be the paint code.I found this out in an interesting way. I had my Canadian Altima in Florida last month, and stopped in at a dealership to ask how much a spoiler would cost. He asked me what colour my car was, and I said grey. OK, so there are more than one shades of grey. Who knew. Anyway, he said no problem, I'll just check the VIN number. That was lesson number two. Turns out Canadian VIN numbers are a different lot than on U.S cars. Again, who knew. He could not get the colour code from my Canadian VIN. However, my local dealership had no problem deciphering the VIN code. In a nutshell, give it a shot. Hopefully the colour code is written into the VIN of a 1998 vintage truck.

Try the engine bay tag. Passenger side located on the firewall right next to the windshield wiper motor. It should list your engine type, trans type, axle type and im pretty sure the color code.
