I have a 98 and i have had 6 different adio setups including an alpine with a 6.5" moterized screen and i have never had a clearace issue. The stock stereo was held on by screws that go through the metal brackets, the sony has holes in the same place. Run the screws into the sony and throw away all the junk hardware that came with the sony. Basically, just keep workin with it and it will fit.

What I do in nissans requires a little creativity. But looks the best. Here are the steps;1. Look at the factory radio notice the differerence in the part that sticks through the dash. Sony has a slightly more narrow face than the factory Panasonic, or Clarion (depending on th model). But Sony also has trim rings that you can use. I think that the 460 has two metal brackets that attatch to the sides then the trim ring just snaps on the front. 2. Then compare the factory with the Sony w/ the trimring installed. Get the plastic Nissan dash piece and see where you will need to drill holes in the metal side brakets to make the same holes line up with how the factory radio fits. If you don't do it this way and you mount with out the trimring you will have a big gap al the way around the radio and it looks like crap, plus objects like cd can accidentaly slip in to the crack and get lost in the dash. 3. The other way is to use a radio like Alpine which you can special order nissan style trim rings. Stereo shops do not have these trim rings! I have always had to specially order these. It can take as long as 6 weeks to get one. I have just been happy using the one that is supplied with the radio in the box it came with. If you have any questions I'd be happy to respond.I'll look for some pics if I have any.
