Hi,

My brother needs to replace his starter in a 98 Altima. Does anyone have a HowTo on installation? (Preferably with Pics). He's somewhat of a newbie on car maintainence, but eagar to learn.

Also, I'd be interested in picking up a copy of a Service Manual for this car. Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance, Zack

make sure its the starter, im sure you allready have though.

have a good set of tools, ratchet extentions, and swivel sockets as well as standard box end wrenches.

in a nutshell, you disconnect the battery, disconect the wire leads, disconnect the starter, assemble in reverse order.

i wish i could help you more on the how to, but i have never done a starter in an altima so im not sure were all the blots are and all.

remove the air box and the hose going to the throttle body. then look down at the transmission bell housing. the starter comes in from the block side toward the fire wall. there are 2 14mm bolts holding it to the bell housing from the trans side. remove those 2 bolts and the started will fall a little bit. go under the car and remove the positve bettery lead from it. while you were up top you would have disconnected the gray connector for the ignition lead to the starter. The connector is locat right above the starter on the belhousing. the starter slides out from underneath the car. The battery does need to be disconnected before starting disassembly as 240kid said.
