Last year I had a local transmission shop put in an ACT Extreme pressure plate, perf. street disc, and release bearing/pilot bushing, and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. It worked great up until recently, but one morning I drove to work(30 miles) and it worked ok. The car sat in the sun all day, and when I went to go home, the clutch pedal felt really stiff, and the clutch wouldn't grab until the pedal was all the way out. I changed the clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder with new nissan parts, thinking this would take care of it, and bled the system with a vacuum bleeder, but now, When the car is cold, the pedal feels real easy, but if you drive it 30 minutes or so, the pedal gets real stiff again, and slips above 4500 rpm. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

A hard pedal is usually an indication of a worn clutch disc, or maybe bad seals in the slave cylinder. But since you say you have changed and bled the master an slave cylinder, I dont know. Since it only does it when hot or warm, that sounds like seals, but if there are new, then the other possiblities are mechanical problems around the disk or shaft or with the disc itself.

It almost seems like there is still air in the line, like it works itself upto the slave cyl. after being used for a while. Is it possible that my line is leaking once it gets warm?

More likely your clutch pushrod adjustment, where the pedal arm connects to the master, is blocking the master bleed. Try moving the adjustment about a quarter-turn in.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I just got my stainless clutchline today and two speed bleeders with it, so I'll change the line also. I'll let you know if it worked. I appreciate all you guys' help. Is this adjustment on the pushrod, and am I moving the pushrod in toward the master cylinder? Just wanted to make sure I'm making the right adjustment.

I put my new clutch line and speed bleeders on yesterday, and drove the car to work with no problems, but when I left work, I went for dinner, and sat in the car for about 15 minutes, and when I went to take off, the pedal was stiff again. I went to a park nearby and adjusted the pedal a few times, and got it to work decent, but it feels like there is too much play in the pedal. Is it possible for air to get in to the master cy. if the pedal goes too far in or too far out. There is a switch under the pedal that adjusts up or down. Would it help if I moved the switch up, or down. (I'm not sure what it's for.) Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

that switch is the clutch switch thingie i forgot the name. but it tells the ecu that the clutch is depressed, and thus will let the engine start. if it reads that is isnt pushed down, it doesnt start.

I went to Burger King this evening, the car ran fine, but I sat in the drivethru for 10 minutes with the car running, and the pedal got stiff and the clutch didn't release until the pedal was all the way out. Could it be possible for the pedal to come too far out causing the mast. cyl. to leak air in? I'm starting to get frustrated with it. I'm starting to be afraid to take it very far, and I travel 30 miles one way to work. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

It was warmer today (15 deg.) So I decided to try adjusting my clutch pedal to the specs in my chilton. I had to adjust the cruise switch the whole way out, and still couldn't get the pedal height to 202mm,(Is that right for a 98 240sx?). I then bled my slave cylinder, using a vacuum bleeder from underneath, with the clutch pedal down. Took it for a long ride, and sat with it running for 30 min.+, and it worked fine. I'm not sure if the old mast. cyl. pushrod was shorter than new one, or what, but at least now it works. Hope this helps someone else out with the same problem. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.
