'98 240 keeps blowing headlights & fogs??????????

I am having a problem with my 240 blowing the headlight and foglight bulbs. they dont blow immediately(it takes a while, different lengths of time) and they arent all going at the same time. something is definately wrong though. i have top of the line bulbs blowing in a month or two. a guy at an auto parts store mentioned the headlight switch at the steering column possibly grounding out. sounds like the most likely reason to me. are there any other possibilities that are worth looking into before replacing a $70 switch? thanks
