Short story, got this thing for peanuts. Tossed a battery and fuel pump in it and about 5 gallons of gas. Fired up and runs smooth as can be.

Movement issues:
Put into Reverse, nothing happens. Put it into Neutral and its moving forward.... interesting. So it thinks its in Drive. Put into Drive and the same happens. Buuuuut, 2 and 1 it is acting like its in Neutral so the car will rev but no movement.

Park car, listen to motor, listen to trans going trough gears at a stop. Put it back in to Park and....... Now Reverse is working as it should. Neutral is acting as it should. BUT D, 2 and 1 are all acting like Neutral. Car will not move.

So basically the car moves forward and backwards under its own power but i cant control which one I get lol. Currently can only go backwards, kinda silly.

Any ideas if someone has seen something like this? Trans fluid looks and smells good and proper level but Probably still going to flush it anyways just to see.

'
Ive only begun working on this car but was hoping on salvaging it. The previous owner was going to sell it for scrap but the interior is nice and exterior is straight and decent. Motor runs good too so I see no reason to let it go to waste.

Some pics just cause.

whenever I see the words "actin a fool" or "act a fool"...it reminds me of Ludacris for "some strange reason"....as a start to your problem...run a diagnostics with a nissan consult (25-30 bucks) which will also give you live data, or refer to the FSM diagnostics procedure....also your interior is gorgeous and looks better than the brochure

Alright, maybe ill see about grabbing one of those or run the self diagnostic. I ended up having to park this over at my parents place since my wife and HOA all are getting sick of all the cars lol. Hard to find time to go wrench on it.

But yeah, as you can see in the picture the interior looks great, hate to let it go to waste.

Sounds like the Transmission Control Module is getting the wrong signals from the gear selector switch about which gear the car should be in.

From the factory service manual, here's a wiring diagram that shows how the gear selector switch (highlighted in green) is connected to the TCM:

If the contacts inside the gear selector switch are dirty, it could be sending signals that the TCM misinterprets about what gear is selected. Or, of the switch is loose or mis-adjusted, it could be misinterpreting the position of the gear shifter.

thanks for the input guys, hopefully with a bit of time I can get it going. Unfortunately we JUST got snow finally and the car is just about impossible to get into the garage being that it only goes in R lol. Not a big deal though, no rush.
