Hey Guys,

So I still have my old custom wood grain shifter from my previous car and was wondering if the 1997 Y33 shifters can be swapped? Just wondering because of the button that is on the oem shifter. If it is possible, does anyone have a write up or can guide me on swapping the shifter I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

I know it's been done, but the only guy that I know that's done it used an aftermarket MOMO shift knob that still has the button for the shift lock and overdrive. I couldn't find any pictures (links are broken)....

Thanks for the reply elwesso.
I've been trying to find something on this and hoped there was a cheat code in swapping a non-button shifter. Hate to see this shift knob go to waste

I think you need a place for button for sure. I always hated that button and wished they'd kept the 2nd gen like the 1st Gen with proper shifting gates, I think you can safely put it on eBay.

Thanks BadQ45t ... unfortunately it will not be an easy sale as it is customized and engraved design I had done. So essentially I can adapt a shifter with the button? Anyone have experience with switching out the shifter? Is it pretty much the same as a standard one would be but attaching the button?

Thanks!

Can you post up a picture of this shifter? Did you previously install it by just screwing on?

And kudos on a detailed customization. I sometimes feel like people throw the word "custom" around a little too much.

Here's my shifter Edbwoy. I understand what you mean about the word custom being tossed around so loosely. But this is my Dipset / Cam'ron inspired shift knob laser cut and gold leaf filled. So It was on my old Miata and its threaded to fit the Miata, however the guy said he will be glad to take it back and take the adapter out and insert a q45 one. Like I said It would suck to have it sit and I don't even want to sell it if there was anyone interested lol.
